* The Beatles started with 5 people. Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best left the group early and replaced by Ringo Starr.
* The Beatles are the best-selling band in history. They have sold about 1,000,000,000 units!
* They have sold more albums in the US than any other artist.
* Before changing the name of their group to Beatles, they had used "Johnny and the Moondogs", "Beatals", The Silver Beetles" and "The Silver Beatles".
* Ringo Starr had a restricted vocal range, but to affirm his status as a full-fledged member, it was decided that all four members should contribute vocals to their albums.
* In early 1965, their dentist secretly added LSD to the coffee he served to Lennon and Harrison in a dinner party. Subsequently, they became regular drug users.
* The group has a well-established understanding that girlfriends were not allowed in the studio. Lennon breached this agreement by bringing Yoko Ono to the sessions, causing tensions amongst the group.
* When they released their White Album in 1968, the critical response was mixed to flat. Over the years, this perception has been changed and in 2003 Rolling Stone magazine ranked it as the tenth greatest album of all time.
* Elvis Presley was one of The Beatles' earliest influences. Lennon said Lennon said: "Nothing really affected me until I heard Elvis. If there hadn't been Elvis, there would not have been The Beatles"
